
As a service to our community, Tau Dance Theater proudly offers Hula classes in the style of George Kananiokeakua Holokai and Modern Dance classes for youth ages 9-21 with a focus on Pōhuli, the Tau style of movement. Scholarship opportunities are available with preference given to underserved, at-risk, native Hawaiian youth and families adversely affected financially by the global pandemic..

Through a Challenge America grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Tau manifests Pōhuli, reindiginization through the creation of a new movement language paradigm for Tau Dance Theater. Artistic Director Peter Rockford Espiritu unveils the Hawai’i premiere of Hāloa, the result of a three-week residency award for the creation of new work in the Intercultural International Choreographer’s Creation Lab at Banff Center for the Creative Arts in Canada.
Special Guest Artist Charly Lowry, Native American (Lumbee/Tuscarora Tribes) singer/songwriter powerhouse and American Idol Season 3 Semi Finalist, contributes deeply moving and Native passion from a female perspective. Deep reaching roots anchor an evening of creative artivism with a message of hope, sustainability and resilience.
Supported by a National Endowment for the Arts - Challenge America Grant. Western Arts Alliance, Advancing Indigenous Performance ‘Native Launchapad’, the Banff Center for the Creative Arts in Canada and The Hawaii Theatre Center. Resort Corporate Sponsor HIGHGATE and THE TWIN FIN.
Full in-person classes will begin but limited to only (16) sixteen students per in-person class. A rotation system is in effect to allow the remaining students to participate through a live Zoom interface.

Tau Y2 Jr. Company (Ages 9-21)
No experience or audition necessary. In-person classes are available for up to 16 people. Tau Y2 Jr. Company will perform dances learned in the Hula and Modern classes and will not be required to attend the Choreography sessions. Dancers must commit to the entire year to be considered for the program.
Our Tau Jr. Company or beginning intermediate level technique classes are held at Page Academy of Dance each Sunday from 11 AM to 1 PM.

Tau Y2 Company (Ages 12-21)
Accepted by audition only. All dancers will have to commit to the entire year. Tau Y2 Company is the official representative of the Tau Dance Theater youth program. Tau Y2 Company is the highest level of performance possible for the program. Tau Y2 Company has the opportunity to perform with the professional company, Tau Dance Theater, including an invitation to Tokyo, Japan in November 2022 for the E Hula Kākou Concert. The Jr. Company has the additional opportunity to learn original choreography of the professional company and it also serves as the selection pool used as alternate dancers in performances should the need arise.
Next audition: March 6, 2022 from 11 AM - 2:30 PM
(Audition fee: $75 – Fee will be applied to tuition for the first month.)
Our Tau Y2 Company or intermediate advanced level technique classes are held at Page Academy of Dance each Sunday from 11 AM to 1 PM. Choreography and rehearsal class to follow 1:30 PM to 3 PM.

Modern Dance classes taught by Artistic Director, Peter Rockford Espiritu in the Limón technique after founding member Betty Jones.
Classes are held in-person and on Zoom at Page Academy of Dance.
Sundays from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Hula) and 12:00-1:00 PM (Modern Technique)
Tuesdays from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (Modern Only)
No experience necessary, all levels are welcomed.
